Winter Wonderland

It's been snowing in Seattle since Wed, and at this stage there is no end to the ice and snow. We live half way up a hill, so to drive out of our house to get to work on Thursday was impossible. No-one was moving anywhere around us, and even 2 buses on the next street (with chains) got stuck at the bottom of the hill. Kara's school was closed so we all stayed home that day. Alas, the snow day turned out to be a bummer as both Lance and Sophie got incredibly sick (both had projectile vomit - oh yes, they were sick indeed!!). Friday was a tad better - I made it into work for most of the day. Lance felt better but Sophie was still throwing up unfortunately, and Kara's school was still closed due to the weather.

There was no fresh snow Saturday but with freezing temps the snow stuck around. Today another several inches fell and there is meant to be more snow tonight and on/off tomorrow. The good part about snow in the NW (as opposed to DC) is that most of the trees are evergreens, so everyone has snow-capped Christmas trees right out their front doors! It really is picturesque! The bad part about snow in the NW is that they have relatively few snow plows (as opposed to DC) so the roads are not cleared at all, only the freeways. The problem is with all the hills in Seattle, it is often hard to get to the freeways.

Anyway, as I blog, Lance and I are debating (arguing!) about who gets to stay home with the kids each day this week. Kara is off all next week and we had planned for that, but this coming week was unexpected. Snow days are all fun except when they eat into your leave (me) or leave you unpaid for the day (Lance).

Still ... it is so pretty here in the NW!
