Well, at least it started out this way!
Pink Panther is the all time "ultimate" in this house. He even beats Curious George ... who thankfully still beats princesses and the like. It started a couple of months back when for some reason I decided to show Kara who Pink Panther was on the computer. Lo and behold, Netflix has a squillion episodes all of about 6 minutes duration. I'm not sure how many there are in total in the "classic collection" but we are up to #56 I believe. Since they are relatively short, the girls often get to watch several episodes (and yes, I have FINALLY succumb to turning on the TV or computer when I REALLY want a break ... can't believe I lasted until now!). Even 'lil Soph asks to watch "Pink Pantha". (Sophie only lasts about 5 mins in front of the computer or TV then wanders off ... but unfortunately Kara is transfixed to the screen).

Then came THE play date! Kara had been wanting G and L, her 2 best friends from school, to come for a play date for weeks (and we needed to return the favor big time). Kara also wanted G and L to meet her out-of-school friend M. You add Sophie to the mix and what you have is FIVE girls racing from one end of the house and back again for hours. Oh, but the giggles!
Anyway, Kara had been building this day up for 2 weeks. She has M come over all the time as well as other kids from the neighborhood ... but this was somehow different in her mind and very special for her. Every day there was a new request for the event ... "and can we have chocolate milk ... and can you make sure we have orange juice ... and can we have lots of fruit in a bowl ... and ...". So we decided on a brunch and had the parents over as well.
Kara was beside herself with excitement this morning (this was at 7am) and was literally exhausted by the time the 10am date rolled around. By about 12noon she was curled up in my lap as I sat with the adults and declared "I don't want to be friends anymore, I'm sooooo tired". Soon after that Sophie came out with "Sophie go to bed mumma" - man, those girls were hammered! Sophie went to bed and the play date continued with a Curious George DVD for everyone else, which was just the thing to calm them all down before attempting naps.
So I guess we have to have more 'regular' play dates for her school friends so Kara doesn't build the event up so much! I see my future now ...

Yes, I keep telling myself that if I did these sorts of things more regularly, I wouldn't find them so difficult.
