Carefree

OK, can't help myself - one last post before I temporarily disappear.

It struck me this afternoon as I went for a walk around the neighborhood with Kara and Sophie - I was totally relaxed and carefree. Subconsciously, I probably never REALLY felt this way where I lived in DC. There had been a large increase in muggings, assaults, harassments, carjackings etc before we left and this was always somewhere in the back of my mind as I walked with the girls. I always tried to have Kara walk beside me ... but here I was this afternoon letting Kara run 20 feet in front and behind, with me not even looking half the time. It was peaceful with no traffic. And it felt good. The way it should.

An update on Kara's phobia of anything that moves (animal wise that is). We have been staying with a beautiful husky named Koko. I had been talking about Koko for about a month before we arrived in Seattle so he wouldn't be such a shock for Kara. In just a few days the transformation has been extremely encouraging. She talks about Koko as if he was part of her family (which he now is); she'll happily go for a walk with him if he's already on the lead; she gives him commands (e.g. come on Koko; stop digging Koko); has even not freaked out when he has brushed right by her; and even asks me to find her more doggies when we go for our neighborhood walks. She is still tentative around Koko if the space is small, but overall we are very pleased.

AND ... on our walk this afternoon we were accompanied by 2 white pussy cats for at least 15 minutes as we dawdled in front of their house. Kara kept her distance at first but soon began interacting with them and eventually patted them! (Can you believe that Vickie?!). I think it will be a while before she pats Koko but on some level I'm quite fine with her not patting dogs.

Lastly, here's a toast to all the MM's .... who appear to be continuing the Mum's Night Out tradition WITHOUT ME! The cheek! Enjoy it ladies!

Good for her! Now the trick is to get her not to fall in love with anything with 4 legs, lest she start begging you to expand the family.

WE will miss you tonight!!!

We will miss you tonight. I bought a bottle of Australian wine to bring in your honor.
Fi, that feeling of peace as you walk around in undoubtedly worth it. I feel peace in our little enclave of a neighborhood, but beyond it's borders...

Take care of yourself next week and be gentle with yourself. We'll be thinking of you.

We missed you tonight. You are always there no matter where you are. Take good care of yourself and I wish you that feeling of peace in all you do.

We really missed you on SS! I showed up at the NBM on Saturday, Laurie showed on Sunday. No one else could make either. You would've been to both. So that's my moment of missing the Kara-Sophie contingent here in DC.
