Leaps and Bounds

I mentioned in a recent post that Kara was becoming more sociable and interactive with others. Well, we have noticed an explosion within the last week and, in particular, the last 2 days! Since the New Year Kara has been put up into the next age group in day care (loose age range of 2.5-4 years, but who knows with our day care center). In just 2 days, the difference in her verbal skills and annunciation, and even her behavior, is quite noticeable. She comes home and chats about her day and tries to say a lot more words in succession (and a lot more new words ... that we have yet to decipher ... but it's good to see her attempting more).

We used to have 'conversations' with her, but we would often get 1-2 word answers, or she would repeat what we were asking, or just say the first thing that popped into her head (e.g. Q: Who's birthday was it today Kara? A: Kara's). Now there is a better understanding of the question and we get more of a response (e.g. Q: Who's birthday was it today Kara? A: Kammi's birthday. We got balloons. We had cake and sang songs). Also, ever since Sophie began babbling and ‘dadada-ing’ we noticed Kara started to imitate Sophie more and use her words less. I’m guessing it didn’t help that Kara was still in a group of 1-2 year olds at day care. But now she is saying just so much more and seems to be extra excited about things. Literally within 2 days! Her conversations to herself have also lengthened and tell more of a story (e.g. Bye-bye. I'm going to the supermarket. Come on baby. Go into the stroller baby. Where are your socks? You need socks. See you later mummy (then she'll break into a nursery rhyme or two as she strolls to her market)).

I’m anticipating the “why? why? why?” stage next.
