That time of year again ... Parent Teacher Conference.
Not going to bore everyone with details this year ... suffice to say that Sophie is an absolute delight and completely fascinates and captivates all the teachers 95% of the time. Then they hold on for dear life for the other 5%. Yep, that's our Soph!! (And I'm sure it's more than 5% of the time but people tend to be very forgiving of Sophie ... I always love those parting "oh, by the way" comments like I got this year ... "oh, and now she's down to only one tantrum a week!" ... excuse me? No one has ever felt the need to mention this before? ... oh, that's right, it's Sophie!).
Kara's "assessment" was more detailed as I guess she "does more" at school. She is coming along in leaps and bounds with her reading and writing, and she's doing fairly well with numbers/addition, etc. She has improved a lot with perseverance and independence (yeah!!) but she is still a distracted kid. Still loves her drawings and joking around with the teachers! Anyway, yet another one of those "oh, by the way" comments ... the director said something along the lines of "Kara will be more than ready for first grade next year ...". Huh, Kara is in kindergarten?!
Yes, I know, one would think a mother would know what grade her child is currently in ... but this actually came as a surprise. Kara missed the school entry cutoff day by a week but we had her assessed for early entrance anyway. Long story short, the assessors felt she wasn't ready socially (extremely shy) to enter kindergarten early, which we could then see, and which was fine with us. So we happily thought she'd be just a kid for another year. I then discussed this with the Montessori director and thought we were all on the same page! Oops!
So it seems like I actually have my own little kindergartener!!
