Back on track ... sort of

Sophie has been back on track with her wake up times. For the past 3 days she may momentarily wake up at 5 or 5:20am but will then sleep until about 6:15am. Thankfully! This morning both girls slept until 6:40am!!! That's just over 12 hours sleep for Sophie and just under 12 hours for Kara! Hooray!

Now if they could only sleep in ONCE on a weekend day!

Kara has been back on track with her 'behaviour' for a couple of days too. From reading some other blogs and comments I guess all kids have "their" versions of bad days or phases. Kara whines a lot but that's more annoying than anything else. Mostly she has a really sweet nature and is fairly good tempered for weeks on end ... but holy cow, about once every 4-6 weeks something misfires in her head and we don't know what has hit us. I also think we don't deal with it so well when it happens because it is so unexpected and we feel unprepared at the time (and it's before dinner when we're rushing and trying to get them fed and into baths, blah, blah). I have noticed that she seems a tad testy on Tuesday nights before she goes to gymnastics (and this week's tornado occurred before gym). Anyway, she really has been on her best behaviour ever since as she now knows she WON'T be going to gym on Saturday if there's a repeat performance. I think she thought she could get away with it and still go to gym (and maybe my theory about seeing "X' get away with it at school has some basis). So we are so glad we didn't let her go.

Two other little things I've noticed about Kara lately - she has started are fibbing and 'stealing'. She often tells little lies and I'm trying to break her out of the habit (I have a vague recollection that I did this a lot when I was a kid ... sorry mum!). It's all trivial matters e.g. 'It wasn't me - Sophie did it' when Sophie is in the next room, or 'I did give Sophie the grapes' as they are spilling out of her mouth as she's talking ... but for some reason it really bugs me. And the stealing - well she seems to steal other kids artwork from school (nothing else, just artwork). I don't really know this as a fact as she is smart enough never to steal artwork with another kid's name on it (!!) but I am certain that Kara has not drawn or painted some of the things she brings home. She can draw people/figures quite well but I know she can't trace lines well or color flawlessly within lines and shapes. And it coincides with the fibs - 'Are you sure this is yours Kara?' ... 'Yes, it's mine' (accompanied by a 'why of course it is' look). Maybe she's just trying to please me as I tend to make a great fuss about her scribbles and arts/crafts work.

Please don't worry Kara - I'll write some really great stuff about you in the next fews blogs!!
