My wish came true

Lance went for a bike ride this morning at 5am (you would still think he was in his 20's at times). Kara woke briefly when she heard him bumping and crashing downstairs (he is the least quiet person I know) ... and I told Kara that if she woke Sophie up and didn't go back to sleep then she couldn't go to gym today. Very cruel I know ... but it worked! Kara slept until 6:30am and Sophie didn't wake until 6:40!

Sweet!

Kara and I have worked out a little morning routine which I LOVE! If she wakes up she knows she has to be quiet so she doesn't wake up Sophie. So when she wakes up she'll whisper "Mummy? Mummy?" - if it's before 6am I whisper back 'Mummy will come in at 6am sweetie' and Kara will then remain quiet for a least another 15-20 minutes (even if it's 5:55 I still tell her it's not 6am and I ususally get another 15 minutes out of her). If it's after 6am I sneak into her room and crawl into bed with her, and that's when we get to play semi-quietly until Sophie wakes up.

She reads me books or vice versa. She pretends I'm her baby kitty cat and gets me food and milk from the pretend kitchen. Or she is the mummy going off to work and I pretend to cry because I will miss her so. She talks about who she will see at school. She wonders if daddy will come in and find her in her special hiding place (which is under the blankets). She makes me tell her stories about a girl called Kara and her sister Sophie. And all sorts of other games. Most of the time we whisper to each other so we don't wake daddy and Sophie, except when she is giggling (it IS hard to do giggle in a whisper).

Then when we hear Sophie wake up (again, usually by saying 'Kara? Kara?' or 'Apple juice!') Kara gets really excited and jumps up and down until I tell her she can go wake Sophie. Kara runs to open Sophie's door, turns the light on (poor Sophie) and runs and jumps into Sophie's crib. Sophie's part of the game is to then pretend to hide from Kara. She buries her face in a corner under one of her bears, with her butt in the air, and giggles with delight as Kara says "Where's Sophie? Has anyone seen Sophie?".

This is when I get to stay in Kara's bed for just a few minutes more as I make Lance get Sophie out of bed. Kara then runs back into her bed, and then we both get to hide under the blanket until Lance brings Sophie into Kara's room to find us both.

Every morning!

And then we all have to race downstairs as it's usually late and we all try to be out the door by 7:20am or so. But it is worth the craziness!

That sounds like a lovely morning routine. Definitely worth the rush later.
